Why I love drinking Bone Broth

May 31, 2015 By Robin Vinge

Bone Broth is the new cool drink on the block. Our ancestors knew all about the virtues of bone broth; they relied on it for sustenance. Bone broth is the broth made from simmering the bones of animals, choose from chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, fish, etc. Throw in some chicken feet, beef knuckles, ribs, trachea for extra cartilaginous properties. Cover the bones with water, bring it to a boil then turn down until it is simmering. For best results, cook bones for at least 24 hours and throw a tbsp or two of vinegar in when you first start cooking. This way you extract more minerals from the bone. Throwing bones into your slow cooker makes the process even easier- you can turn it on low, cover the bones with water, add vinegar and vegetable scraps like carrot, celery, zucchini, onions, garlic and seasoning if desired. Come back in 24 or 48 hours and your broth is ready to drink. Simmering for such a long time will also produce gelatin from collagen extracted from the bones.

Bone broth is said to tonify the blood. Because of its rich mineral content (calcium, phosphorus) as well as magnesium, sodium, potassium, sulfate that are readily absorb-able, make it a nutrient rich broth. The cartilage components include chondroitin sulfate, keratin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid. These glycosaminoglycans (GAGS) are important for tissue repair and provide the nutrients are skeleton needs for support. It has been said that bone broth is healing for those that suffer from arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, decreased immune status and malnutrition.

The gelatin in bone broth protects and heals the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract. It is helpful in treating leaky gut syndrome which is at the basis of many chronic health conditions that we face today including autoimmune disease. Gelatin is thought to increase the digestibility of other proteins. Glycine is the main amino acid in gelatin. Bone broth is believed to improve body weight and bone mineral density as well as reduction of muscle wasting. Used to assist healing of food allergies, maldigestion (too much acid or low acid), osteoporosis, dental degeneration, poor wound healing and many other chronic states of dis-ease, bone broth taken daily, 2 cups, can assist in boosting minerals and repair of connective tissue. I am hoping that bone broth will be on tap at local hipster cafe’s soon!! Until then, make your own and report back to me, how it was…

The Hay House Summit

May 17, 2015 By Robin Vinge

I just finished a marathon of listening and viewing videos from the free Hay House Summit. Talk about a high vibrational download. I went to a ‘I can do it conference’ in 2005 in Las Vegas and it one of the best experiences of my life. I met Louise Hay at that time and she is just as beautiful now watching her talk about her movie ‘You can Heal your Life’ as she was back then. Her movie is so inspiring and required viewing in my opinion if you are trying to heal your life in any way, shape or manner with regards to your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual self. Not too terribly long ago I was healing my life especially with regards to my physical health. I am at the point in my life where I feel that I can claim stability with regards to my physical health and Hay House played a large role in helping me believe that I could be well and thrive on an ongoing basis. Watching Louise Hay’s movie today re-inspired me to really teach others that your mind/body/spirit connection is imperative to healing illness in your life be it emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual.

When I was struggling with MS flares and did not know how to manage it well, I used affirmations to affirm what I wanted my body to do knowing that my soul knew how to get better with the right mind/body/spirit alignment that Louise Hay has made famous with her work. Affirmations are a must and bear repeating frequently and consistently until your body has that knowledge deep in your being. The body is always seeking to be well if you put it in the right environment whether that be the right nutritional environment, or the right mental environment (affirmations, loving thoughts about self and other, health promoting beliefs which can be reviewed periodically to assess ongoing evolution), or the right emotional environment (are you spending time on things that nourish the self? bring happiness to the self or bring joy? do you seek to love self and love others? do you focus on right attitude or conscious perception?) or spiritual environment (could there be a blessing in this experience? could there be a deeper meaning behind this illness showing up in my life? how can I further connect with universal consciousness or God or whatever you label the highest source of divine light and protection to be in your life?). All of these intentions or reflections to align with self require a considerable degree of vigilance but this should feel like a process of coming into equilibrium and bring deep peace and contentment knowing that the soul is seeking complete union with self which is what ultimate alignment is all about…

You can heal your life. Thank you to Louise Hay, Reid Tracey and the Hay House Summit for making this material free and available for all the public to access. You are changing the face of health care and empowering the world to take an active participating role to heal themselves. Bravo!! Much Love to you!! google hay house summit to access right now- all you need is a personal email address…XOXOXO Robin

Treating Allergies with natural medicine and biotherapeutic drainage

April 26, 2015 By Robin Vinge

We are entering the time of high reactivity to our environment in the form of allergies, hay fever, skin reactions and the like at this time of year. How do we help our immune system ‘calm down’ at this time and efficiently eliminate toxins? How can we support our liver so that it acts as the appropriate filter meant to keep our internal and environmental toxins at bay and keep our immune system from overreacting to our environment?!

First we need to help the immune system recognize what is dangerous and what is not. The gut microbiome plays a big role in establishing the balance of our immune system. Supplementing healthy gut flora in the form of probiotic bacteria is paramount here. HMF probiotics are tested and get good results; HMF intensive and HMF multistrain are two formulas  used to establish a healthy microbiome and reduce reactivity from the gut level. Depending on food allergy results I may also use targeted nutrients like glutamine and intestigen to alter gut terrain for the better. Healthy fats like fish oil o krill oil can help reduce inflammation as do phytogens>>> digesten and intestigen.

An allergic terrain is typically very acidic; therefore it is important to alkalanize the system. Paying attention to acid/alkaline levels in the diet is key here with the emphasis on more alkaline foods(lots of greens and veggies)and reducing more acidic foods including meat protein, alcohol, sugar, flour, and dairy products in the diet. Adding alkaline agents in the form of buffered minerals, melange cell salts, colloidal multiminerals, afa-gen, phytogreens or Redgen can be useful to bring up proper mineral balance and reduce reactivity overall.

It is also important to treat the liver so it acts as a better filter, efficiently eliminating toxins that interfere with proper function. Biotherapeutic drainage of the liver  using Unda’s such as 1, 20, 243 can be supportive for those allergic patients especially with a psoric terrain. Tuberculinics can also have a more allergic terrain and would benefit from targeted drainage and support of liver function. Accessory nutrients such as milk thistle, artichoke, burdock, and/or rosemarinus officinalis would be warranted in this case.

Working on adrenal function can also reduce allergies and reactivity in general. My favorite herb for reducing inflammation and restoring adrenal function is Ribes nigrum. It increases energy and supports cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol helps calm down an over-reactive immune system making your system more balanced overall. Al-gen is a phytogen product that works on adrenals, kidney and liver to support optimal terrain in an allergic  system and facilitates toxin elimination to restore balance.

Supportive accessory nutrients to help stabilize mast cells and prevent the release of histamine include magnesium,  vitamin C, quercitin and bioflavonoids. Homeopathics both single remedies (nat mur, arsenicum, histaminum, allium cepa. euphrasia, nux vomica, etc) and combination (Allergi-plex) can come in handy to prevent hay fever or treat it, thus reducing  the misery involved in suffering from chronic allergies.
