I will talk more about the physical side of healing in future posts as I feel most people resonate with that side of healing and are wanting to make more changes pertaining to their physical health. However, I am most excited to discuss the spiritual side of healing with you because this is the world that I really get and love. The spiritual side is the nitty gritty of healing. It is when you come face to face with yourself and your life and that can pose difficulty for most if not all of the human race. It is when you lie naked against the transparent backdrop of your life and begin to see things as they really are. It is cutting out the crap and agreeing to face the music. This is not easy folks! It is scary and hard to face the music which is the particular tune that you are playing in this life. But by not facing yourself and your music you leave a lot of stones unturned. The more stones unturned the less transformative is the healing. The spiritual side of healing is where the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow lies; agreeing to look at this aspect of yourself can lead to the most insights, the most profound healings and the most peace and understanding that you will ever know. If you have never had a longing to know yourself better or have never had a desire to know who or what God or a spiritual connection is then this side of healing is not for you now. But there will be a time, likely when you are challenged by some unforeseen circumstance in your life, perhaps an ego shattering experience like the death of someone you love, the diagnosis of a serious illness in yourself or another, losing your job or filing for bankruptcy, a divorce that you never saw coming, a horrendous accident….this incident will act as a catalyst and you will be driven to seek out the spiritual side of healing. You will be greatly comforted by it when there is nothing left you can do, there is nowhere else you can go, and there is no one that can really understand what you are going through; you have officially hit rock bottom and you will have nowhere else to turn but to spirit. You are never alone and there is always a spiritual connection around you; you just have to be open to it. You have to ask for help from the spiritual realms and trust me> you will receive help…the help might come in an unexpected phone call that you receive, a commercial on your television, a conversation that you are having with a friend, a song you hear on the radio, a sentence you read in your newspaper… the mystery lies in the method of delivery but this connection to spirit becomes your lifeline>>> the message is for you and it is from the spiritual realms – you will know this when it happens to you and it is the beginning of your connection to the spiritual world…your life has now officially changed…for the better…
The Physical Side of Healing
One thing that I have been more focused on as of late is promoting a more alkaline pH in my body. As chronic acidity is linked to the many degenerative and chronic diseases that our society deals with on a regular basis, the call is to eat more foods that favor an alkaline pH in the body – read fruits and vegetables…I find that most people get the recommended amounts of fruits in their diets but fall short in the vegetable department. One of the quickest ways to increase alkaline status and up your veggie intake is to have green drinks. There are many green drinks on the market and you can go to any health food store and get a powdered drink to help the physical side of healing. I use Phytogreens in my practice (made by Seroyal) but you will not find that particular brand on the shelf. Greens plus is a decent health food store brand (just follow the directions on the label). If you are more adventurous, I recommend making your own green drink. Pick up organic celery, cilantro, cucumber, parsley, kale, spinach, apples and pears for starters. Wash the vegetables. Remove the middle stalk of the kale and rip into bite sized pieces. Cut the apples or pears in half and remove the core. You need a kitchen appliance to blend your drink. You can use a blender, hand blender or a bullet blender (from Canadian Tire). Add one cup of orange juice to the blender and one cup of water. Then add the equivalent of three fronds of kale or use 1 1/2 fronds kale and a handful of spinach, then add two stalks of celery, 1/2 cucumber, a handful of cilantro or parsley and 1/2 to 1 apple or pear. This is a great alkalinizing drink that tastes good. Try it and modify it to suit your liking. If you are prone to calciun oxalate kidney stones, you should omit the kale and spinach. Otherwise, happy alkalanizing blending everyone. I swear that the complexion of my skin improves when I am juicing more. Juicing is an easy way to get more fruits and veggies in your body and they are in a form that is easy for the body to assimilate. Until next time, try a green smoothie…
The Physical Side of Healing
The physical side of healing has always been easier for me than the mental and emotional sides but that doesn’t mean that it has not required effort on my part. Self care is at the top of my list in terms of my values. I spend a lot of time on food preparation. I buy mostly organic produce, grains, and meats. I spend time at farmer’s markets and shop at bigger health food stores like Community Natural Foods. I spend time finding recipes that are nutrient rich and relatively simple to prepare. I choose food with life energy; this means food that is fresh versus foods in a box or a can. I cook my food from scratch. That ensures that there is optimal life energy in the food. If there is more life energy in the food then this translates into more life energy in your body. I used to hate cooking but somewhere along the way, I realized that to really enjoy my food and be satisfied,I would have to learn to cook. I realized that yummy food does not get yummy in a flash. It takes time to prepare. You have to be patient and enjoy the process of food preparation because it is time consuming. Now I enjoy cooking. I put on my favorite music and make an afternoon of it or an evening of it. I cook more food on the weekend such as stews and soups and freeze some so I have some food that is ready to thaw out when I am really tired or am time pressured to make dinner due to some other pressing commitment. I eat gluten and dairy free and find that I have more energy as a result. I wouldn’t recommend that everyone go gluten and dairy free because it is a lot of work but try it for two to four weeks and see if it gives you more energy or alleviates symptoms that you are experiencing on a daily basis. I am now more well versed on the subject of whole grains and know what is required to prepare them in nourishing ways. I try to rotate different grains to reduce allergenic potentiality and to keep myself from getting bored. The physical side of healing involves nourishing your body with nutritious, delicious, nutrient rich food. I subscribe to allrecipes.com for free and modify the recipes to make them more Robin friendly. I also am on emails lists from food blogging friends that are preparing beautiful food (healthy green kitchen – Dr. Winnie Wine who I graduated with). She is always a source of amazing recipes. It is in this way that you actually become inspired to cook beautiful food for yourself. Even living on your own can be a beautiful dining experience if you take the time to prepare a special meal for yourself and celebrate you. Light some special candles and put your favorite music on; say a blessing of thanks for the beautiful food you prepared and bon appetit!
