It is time to take the power back regarding your health. For hundreds of years, you have put your health in your doctor’s care. The world needs doctors; they are a necessary cog in the chain of health care. They have a valuable role to play. But, realize that you have to some degree, put your power outside of yourself, in someone else’s hands. The whole health care system is built on this structuring of power, where the patient has the least amount of power; therefore, their fate lies in someone else’s hands. It is time, to take back the responsibility for your health. Your chronic thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and your emotional habits all affect your health. When you see some of the reasons behind creating imbalance in your body, you can begin to shed some light on how you heal it. Illness is a gift and it is a catalyst for your transformation. No one else can do the work of personal healing, but you. A prescription may buy you time but it will not get to the root cause. It is up to you to undertake the job of self exploration, self examination and the pursuit of self knowledge, because, herein, lay the secret to curative actions. Here is the grand paradigm shift, required in health care, and it will be vehemently opposed by many, who would desire to abdicate responsibility for their own health. But for those of you desiring deep healing, this is how it works.
The never ending journey of unearthing old beliefs…
This journey of personal healing never ends…In my quest to heal every aspect of my life, what has been coming up for me is yet more old beliefs that need to be let go of. Every time that I think that I have excavated my inner landscape ad nauseum…I unearth more old beliefs. I was having a bath the other night thinking about my childhood and all of a sudden, an old belief surfaced. The belief was ‘no matter what I do, it is wrong.’ I clearly saw that this belief still operates in my life; in fact, it operates in many different corners of my life. I have trouble making decisions in my life… no wonder, if this belief lurks in the depths of my subconscious…I make a decision and then think that I made the wrong decision. I often reverse my decisions. I can see why I do this now! ‘No matter what I do, it is wrong.’ I have flashbacks of staying in relationships that were far past their expiration date yet having a heck of a time leaving them. ‘No matter what I do, it is wrong.’ Unearthing this old belief explains a lot…
I see this belief in my working life. If I have an idea that comes from the place of inspiration and I know it, I am still flooded by doubts when commiting to the idea and carrying it through to completion. When I am focused on my working life, I never feel sure that the path that I am on is the right one. ‘No matter what I do, it is wrong.’ I see a carbon copy of this belief in every aspect of my life. This belief immobilizes me and takes me far away from my knowingness; my intuitive connection to my higher consciousness so thank God it came forward to me so I could work on healing it. Even recognizing it is a major a-ha. Can I trace this belief back to my childhood? I expect so but I can’t be sure of when it started. My mom told me that when I was playing in a soccer game when I was in grade 5 the ball hit my leg and went into my own team’s net. I was so ashamed believing that it was my fault that I left the game and ran all the way home. I lived 3 miles from school to put things into perspective. I was trying my best in the soccer game…maybe this was where my belief was created ‘no matter what I do, it is wrong.’ I think it probably started before I was consciously aware of it. The point is to acknowledge these old beliefs, make them conscious and create new beliefs that are empowering so you can move forward in your life. A new empowering belief might be, ‘no matter what I choose to do, I am worthy of love and acceptance.’ The young child that learned the belief ‘no matter what I do, it is wrong’ that caused her suffering is an adult now and capable of creating beliefs that are healing to her mind, body, and soul.
In this cold weather, are you taking care of your skin?
I thought I would mix it up a little and talk about self care with regards to your skin. Right now, with the mercury at an all time low, the heat at an all time high, and with frequent handwashing to prevent infections your skin can be in a pretty sad state. Did you know your skin is responsible for 1/4 of your body’s detoxification each day? The skin eliminates acid wastes through your sweat glands and in total eliminates~ 2 lbs of waste each day. Because the skin is a way for the body to get rid of toxins, it makes sense that you would want to help it along. Dry skin brushing is a great way to do this; you get rid of scaly leather skin and your skin can breathe. That’s right your skin can breathe- it inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide. It is a living breathing organism. Dry skin brushing moves lymph (brings the cells nutrients and removes their waste), improves circulation, stimulates your immune system, is good for your nervous system and makes your skin softer and more touch worthy when you are snuggled under a mountain of covers with your significant other.
To dry skin brush all you need is a natural -bristle brush found at your local health food store; a loofah sponge could also be used in a pinch. Make sure the handle is long enough so you can reach all the areas on your body but short enough so that is it easy to manuever. You want to do long upward strokes starting from your toes to your heart. Do not brush away from the heart rather always towards it. Feel free to brush in circular motions in places that need more attention. Tackle your cellulite to help with removal of wastes. Avoid areas of your skin where it is thinner or any area where the skin has been compromised (cuts, abrasions, eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc.). Don’t forget the bottom of your feet which never see the light of day in winter (it’s too cold!). If you are a super star, exercise first thing in the am before you start skin brushing. (I am not unless we are talking summer. I exercise after work or in the afternoon in the winter). Exercise supports your elimination through your sweat glands so you promote more detoxification all around. Brush your skin before you have a bath or shower. Varying the temperature if you are having a shower will support your immune system. Be in the hot stream for 3 minutes and then turn on the cold stream (brace yourself) for 3o seconds- 1 minute. Do this three to five times and end on cold. This is therapeutic hydrotherapy and it promotes detoxification and stimulates circulation as well. After your water treatment, be sure and apply lotion afterwards. Just make sure it is a natural lotion fit for a king or queen. Check out your local health food store for a selection worthy of your application.
