I thought I would write another post about overcoming Anorexia Nervosa. As mentioned before, I am doing a Zoom call teaching introductory EFT during eating disorders awareness week on February 6, 2023 at 1 pm MST. The call will be around 30-45 minutes with 30 minutes for questions after the webinar. I have found EFT to be so helpful for managing anxiety as well as emotional regulation. I wish I had known about it when I was struggling with my addiction in my adolescent years. I would have saved my parents from a lot of unnecessary stress. I watched a lot of Ted Talks on Anorexia this week. I understand a lot of the components that make up anorexia- feeling a lot of pressure to be perfect in one’s life, dealing with social anxiety, fitting in, not giving a voice to what you are feeling, the challenges inherent in growing up, etc. I was watching a podcast with a doctor (Dr. James Greenblatt) that has written a book called ‘Answers to Anorexia’. I will get the book out now so I can see if it is helpful to others who are struggling with anorexia (I will let you know what I think on my next blog). He talked about some of the nutrients that can be helpful when one is struggling with an eating disorder (on his podcast). Being a naturopathic doctor, I identified with his functional medicine approach. He talked about the importance of Zinc, amino acids, omega 3 fatty acids for helping ensure good brain function. Zinc status can be evaluated inexpensively by doing a Zinc Tally test. A lot of supplement companies (Metagenics specifically) sells a supplement that is called ‘Zinc tally’. If you take 2 tsp of Zinc Tally and you register that is tastes unpleasant your zinc status may be okay but it is best to check red blood cell levels of zinc with your family doctor. Getting your levels of nutrients into an optimal level may help you if you struggle with eating disorders. Food sources of zinc can prove helpful and those include whole oats (gluten free if you have an autoimmune disease), oysters, pumpkin seeds, chick peas, cashews, almonds, wild sardines, wild salmon, grass fed beef or lamb. If you want to sign up for my free lecture I have done an eventbrite invitation. Search under EFT help for Eating Disorders on February 6th if you want to register for my free introductory Zoom lecture. Until next time, treat yourself with love and compassion. I do have a special on EFT/counseling right now at Parallel Wellness. Sign up for four sessions and it is only $80 for the hour if you are interested. Hope to see you soon!
