We are entering the time of high reactivity to our environment in the form of allergies, hay fever, skin reactions and the like at this time of year. How do we help our immune system ‘calm down’ at this time and efficiently eliminate toxins? How can we support our liver so that it acts as the appropriate filter meant to keep our internal and environmental toxins at bay and keep our immune system from overreacting to our environment?!
First we need to help the immune system recognize what is dangerous and what is not. The gut microbiome plays a big role in establishing the balance of our immune system. Supplementing healthy gut flora in the form of probiotic bacteria is paramount here. HMF probiotics are tested and get good results; HMF intensive and HMF multistrain are two formulas used to establish a healthy microbiome and reduce reactivity from the gut level. Depending on food allergy results I may also use targeted nutrients like glutamine and intestigen to alter gut terrain for the better. Healthy fats like fish oil o krill oil can help reduce inflammation as do phytogens>>> digesten and intestigen.
An allergic terrain is typically very acidic; therefore it is important to alkalanize the system. Paying attention to acid/alkaline levels in the diet is key here with the emphasis on more alkaline foods(lots of greens and veggies)and reducing more acidic foods including meat protein, alcohol, sugar, flour, and dairy products in the diet. Adding alkaline agents in the form of buffered minerals, melange cell salts, colloidal multiminerals, afa-gen, phytogreens or Redgen can be useful to bring up proper mineral balance and reduce reactivity overall.
It is also important to treat the liver so it acts as a better filter, efficiently eliminating toxins that interfere with proper function. Biotherapeutic drainage of the liver using Unda’s such as 1, 20, 243 can be supportive for those allergic patients especially with a psoric terrain. Tuberculinics can also have a more allergic terrain and would benefit from targeted drainage and support of liver function. Accessory nutrients such as milk thistle, artichoke, burdock, and/or rosemarinus officinalis would be warranted in this case.
Working on adrenal function can also reduce allergies and reactivity in general. My favorite herb for reducing inflammation and restoring adrenal function is Ribes nigrum. It increases energy and supports cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol helps calm down an over-reactive immune system making your system more balanced overall. Al-gen is a phytogen product that works on adrenals, kidney and liver to support optimal terrain in an allergic system and facilitates toxin elimination to restore balance.
Supportive accessory nutrients to help stabilize mast cells and prevent the release of histamine include magnesium, vitamin C, quercitin and bioflavonoids. Homeopathics both single remedies (nat mur, arsenicum, histaminum, allium cepa. euphrasia, nux vomica, etc) and combination (Allergi-plex) can come in handy to prevent hay fever or treat it, thus reducing the misery involved in suffering from chronic allergies.
